After two years of searching for a suitable seven-seater vehicle via the Motability scheme that would enable me to continue travelling for work and life-saving treatment, I was pleased to discover that a potential VW vehicle was unexpectedly added to the scheme in May 2024.
I immediately contacted my local dealership to schedule a test drive for my carer, as I require adaptations to drive. However, I was informed that the vehicle I was interested in was unavailable for viewing and test driving. This situation made me extremely anxious because I didn’t want to commit to ordering a vehicle that might not meet my needs.
Fortunately, Brett from my local VW dealership was the most helpful person I had spoken to in two years. He described the vehicle over the phone and compared every aspect to my previous Motability vehicle. He even shared his own experiences and those of other Motability customers to help me understand more about it.
Brett explained that the vehicle would unlikely be available through the Motability scheme for more than one quarter. Additionally, since my previous contract was maxed out and the vehicle was due to be returned in July 2024, I was advised to visit the dealership as soon as possible to discuss placing an order.
Despite my nerves, Brett was very efficient and ensured my visit was quick and informative. I genuinely trusted his recommendations, so I agreed to place an order. Brett kept me updated throughout the entire order process and allowed me to bring both my manual and powered q
wheelchairs on handover day to ensure they fit in the new vehicle before I drove away.
Thankfully, Brett’s predictions were accurate, and everything fit perfectly, including my assistance dog. Brett took the time to explain all the vehicle's features to both me and my carer, which was incredibly helpful.
I have now been using the vehicle for about a month. During this time, I travelled from Newcastle to Milton Keynes for an exhibition, and my carer and I were able to fit my wheelchair, dog, oxygen machine, luggage, exhibition stand supplies, and more with ease.
After worrying for a long time about not finding a new Motability vehicle and receiving no support from Motability or the Motability Foundation, I am relieved and excited about how everything has turned out. As Brett predicted, the vehicle was unavailable on the scheme for even one quarter, meaning I would now be without a vehicle without his honesty!
