    Was not told that the car was petrol n put in diesel and has now cost me loren Glen £75 of diesel and excess of £100 so I am very disappointed with George pluss he did not tell me about the insurance claim so I would have been waiting weeks for the car to be repaired gorge just said well that money has gone now

    Dear Miss Glen
    Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention. I can truly understand your frustration. I have looked into this for you to understand the process fully before responding.

    My understanding is that you were recommended a Hyundai Tucson and it was that vehicle specifically that you were interested in. Within our Hyundai range there are no diesel variants only petrol therefore your enquiry would have progressed as a petrol vehicle. With the recent focus on the environment all manufacturers have had to make the necessary adjustments to their range portfolio to comply with emission targets. Drivers of diesel vehicles will need to remember to put petrol in the tank when filling, this can take time before it becomes habit, mistaking the fuel type is very easy, this is recognised by the manufacturers and on most vehicles there is a placard stating the petrol or diesel type, on the Tucson it is E10, this once again can be confusing if someone does not understand what E10 means, therefore there is one other safety net in place. This is in the form of a smaller filler neck of 21mm for petrol cars and a larger one of 25mm for diesel. In this case it would have been impossible for the fuel nozzle to be correctly inserted to stop spillage if the filling station was using a pump size of 25mm. I am truly sensitive to your feelings if the fuel nozzle was indeed the smaller type which has not been helpful in preventing this issue. I would be grateful if you could please give me the name and whereabouts of the filling station used so that we may check the nozzle size. If the nozzle size is of a size that can be inserted into the neck of your car Hawkins Motors as a gesture of goodwill is willing to cover the cost of your excess and with submission of the fuel receipt be willing to cover the cost of the excess. I hope that this goes some way is showing that as a company Hawkins Motors understands that mistakes do happen and is willing to help.
